Divergent: Ascendant To Launch As a TV Movie
Divergent: Ascendant To Launch As a TV Movie
In an exclusive from Variety, it is rumored that Lionsgate plans to skip the theatrical release of the final movie in The Divergent Series and wrap it up as a television movie and spinoff series. Negotiations are in the early stages, but according to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the studio would like to close the series on the small screen, where it could then segue into a standalone television series.
The final movie was set to hit theaters in June 2017. Could the decision have been made due to the last film, The Divergent Series: Allegiant, not doing as well at the box office as the first two films in the series? Will the stars of the series (Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort) return to the last installment if it goes to TV instead of the box office? There are so many questions as to why a studio as large as Lionsgate would decide to take an established series, with a large fan base and change it up at the last-minute. Little is known as of yet as to what the outcome will be, however if the decision is made to move to the smaller screen, Lionsgate Television would most likely handle the production.
At this time, Lionsgate has not made a statement. So stay tuned to see what happens next!
After reading this, I started to get mad. That is crazy that Lionsgate would consider moving the final film to the small screen. Lionsgate is messing with The Divergent fans. I’m a big fan of this series, and I think fans would protest Lionsgate entertainment, if they were to do this. I understand that this is only a rumor, and I truly hope this doesn’t come true. It was Lionsgate’s fault that Allegiant didn’t do good in the box office, even the CEO of Lionsgate said that. Why would Lionsgate do this to The Divergent series when they did not do this to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, Harry Potter series, or The Twilight saga? Lionsgate, please do not do this to The Divergent series: Ascendant.
This is what happens when the off screen chemistry of the two stars does not translate to the movies. It’s not the stars’ faults that the execution was terrible!
